Aggie Bonfire

In 1909, Aggies worked together to build the first Bonfire in advance of Texas A&M’s football game against the University of Texas. Over the years, the structure grew to a massive 55 feet high tiered stack with a circumference of 195 feet to symbolize the "burning desire" to beat the arch-rival Longhorns. The stack was lit on the night before the Texas A&M-UT game when the game was played in College Station, and two nights before games in Austin.  In a related tradition, thousands of Aggies met each spring to "Replant" seedlings.
