Drum Roll Please! Camp was a huge success – We broke all kinds of records this year; but our favorite was the all time attendance record with 275 ladies attending!!! (157 attended Camp ’06.) Fifty-four (54) different Aggie Moms Clubs attended, thirteen (13) out of state Moms representing ten (10) different states & at least ten (10) Mother-Grandmother sets participated….each year that number grows and grows! 70 % of these Moms attended Camp for the first time. One of our biggest promotions happened during Parent’s Weekend at Boutique because 23% of these Moms signed up for more information about Camp at that time. The Saturday evening Family Dinner seemed to be a huge hit as well. There was a waiting list for tickets but 550 Moms and their students seemed to get them all first! The number of camps grew as well to thirteen (13) which was a Wonderful & Lucky number because we had twenty-six (26) Amazing Counselors that nurtured an average of twenty (20) Campers each! Everyone loved participating in the skits even if it was just holding put a sign. These Camps performed some of the most creative and hilarious skits yet! Plus it took eighteen (18) Staff to pull this all together! We even started a new tradition! Any Mom who had an Aggie ring, a Sweetheart ring, or an Aggie Moms ring who never had a chance to dunk their ring were invited to the join us poolside for a champagne or sprite ring dunking…We had 25 Moms share in this special experience!. Speakers & Entertainment – This year’s emphasis was on our students! Every speaker was a student except for our favorite Former Yell Leader, Marty Holmes and his son. The Aggie Wrangles performed for us on Friday night and the Jazz Band entertained at the Family Dinner on Saturday. But the highlight to close out Camp on Sunday morning was headliner, Granger Smith!!! We invited our students and we packed the ballroom swaying to We Bleed Maroon. There was even some line dancing going on at the back of the room!!! He gave an excellent concert!!! Thanks to the 32 Vendors – 19 of them were Aggie Moms Clubs plus 13 Independent Vendors participated in the Galleria Shopping Mall on Saturday. Another tradition we hope will continue was the Silent Auction. We announced to the Moms this money would be donated to the recognized Student Organizations who participated as speakers at Camp. Our Camp Moms raised $4,373.00 !!!! WHOOP!!!! Thanks to all those who bought or donated items this year! Also a Huge Thanks goes out to our Sponsors, Vendors, Door Prize Donors and Silent Auction item Donors, you helped make Camp AWESOME this year! Remember "Come to Camp "08" - November 14-16, 2008. It’s so much fun Moms who no longer have students at A&M still come to Camp!! We are so excited about the Aggie Moms Camp '07. First, let us tell you a little about ourselves. My name is Nancy Williford and I am the proud Aggie Corp Mom of Jeff, class of '06 who Graduated in August and has just married another Aggie, Abby `06 - Whoop! They live in College Station. I'm also the proud Mom of Samantha, class of '07 at SFA, Lisa, class of '06 at Whitman who graduated in May, & Danny, class of '08 at WSU! I'm married to Alan Parrish, A&M class of '82. We are from Katy. This will be my 6th year at camp & I'm in the Katy/West Houston Aggie Mom's Club where I served as President '06-`07. I own my own business. When my hubby and I are not traveling and visiting our kids, I stay busy with my Aggie Mom & sorority activities. Wanda and I met a couple of years ago at Camp. We have been campers & counselors together, then on Staff and now serving together as Camp Co-Directors. I've made such wonderful friendships through Aggie Moms, the Corp & this Camp! You will too!! Whoop! My name is Wanda Petree and I am the proud Aggie Mom of Kadie, class of '07 and Nick, class of '09. Whoop! We live in Waco where my husband Dick is in Employee Relations with Nortel Communications and I retired from M&M/MARS (yes, the candy company) after 24 years in Human Resources. We also have a home in Surfside Beach, Texas where we plan to soon live full time. Dick and I are from North Carolina, Kadie was born in Tennessee, Nick was born in Illinois and we moved to Texas from New Jersey 9 years ago. After all this moving around, I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it is to now have our new Aggie friends and family. I attended my first Aggie Mom Camp four years ago and had so much fun I just couldn't wait to be a Camp Counselor with Nancy. The rest they say is history. Whoop! We hope to make your Aggie Moms Camp weekend fun and memorable! If you have never been to this Camp here's a little of what to expect: lots of walking, lots of fun, lots of laughter, making lots of new friends and oh yeah, did I mention, little sleep! That's ok; you can rest when you get home! One thing for sure, you can expect to leave Camp knowing you are a member of the "Aggie Family"...and have been "Touched by the Aggie Spirit"! What To Bring To Camp: Comfortable walking shoes The bare toiletry & clothing essentials, as you will be sharing a room with another camper and space is limited. It is definitely a jeans and t-shirt weekend. You will be given a camp T-shirt to wear all weekend (with one exception-dinner Saturday night) so bring along a couple of plain t-shirts or turtlenecks to wear under your camp shirt (some people say a bottle of Fabreeze helps). A coat and umbrella - to accommodate the unpredictable Texas weather. (We've been rained on a few times) If you're a camera nut like me, bring your camera, there will be some great group shots and memories to catch! Bring your "Aggie Mom bragging attitude"! Whoop! In sharing time we will love to hear about your Aggies!!! For you Corp Moms! We will have a meeting Saturday evening - so bring your questions! Our camp staff is working very hard to make this Camp the Best ever! We'll be waiting for you! If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call or email. Looking forward to seeing you in November! Whoop & Gig' em! Nancy & Wanda Nancy - Hm 281-492-7551 Wanda - Hm - 254-848-2802 email: ap43nw@swbell.net email: HEpetree@aol.com
TOP TEN EXCUSES “YOU CAN’T USE” for NOT ATTENDING CAMP
# 10 - I won’t know anyone. Meeting people and building lasting relationships are some of the best reasons you come to CAMP!!!
# 9 - I live too far away. Well, there seems to be airplanes, cars & SUV’s that brought Moms to College Station from not only all over Texas, but 7 other states. We had 9 Moms last year from out of state. They were from OK, NC, AR, AZ, NM, CA, & CT – yes, that’s Connecticut! The Mom from Connecticut has come to CAMP 5 years in a row. Word seems to be getting around about the FUN we have!!!
# 8 - Isn’t CAMP just for Freshmen Moms. Heavens No! That was changed several years ago…..We have Moms that return year after year because they don’t want to miss out on all the FUN, visit with other Moms they met in past years….oh, and visit with their students and learn about A&M.
# 7 - I no longer have a student at A&M. Well, bless your heart, neither do I, but I wouldn’t miss CAMP. This will be my 6th year! You would be surprised of all the Moms who keep coming back and haven’t had students at A&M in several years.
# 6 – I don’t know if my health is good enough to keep up with the other ladies. We had 3 sets of Mother/Grandmother’s attend last year. The year before, a lady in her 80’s attended as a Camper in a wheel-chair carting her oxygen. She came with her daughter and had a great time….even participated in a camp skit. So what’s your excuse!
# 5 – It’s too much money. Have you seen the prices of hotels lately? Where else can you get 2 nights in a hotel, your meals, a camp t-shirt, entertainment, speakers, tours, time for shopping, Saturday night dinner with your student, a door prize and more…..for much less than two nights in College Station on a football weekend.
# 4 – I hear you have to perform a skit. Skits, that’s one of the best parts of CAMP that’s saved for last! You either have to Perform in a skit OR CHEER ON THOSE THAT DO! You can do that, can’t you! Don’t let these skits intimidate you….most of us don’t have any talents per say but we can act a little silly and sing a yell….. (Catch our skit pictures from last year’s CAMP; They were AWESOME!)
# 3 – I just don’t have time to get away for the weekend. Tell me who has the time? But you need to make some time just for you….to get away with the girls!!! Tell your hubby, it’s your Hunting Weekend! You know Camping out….Except you won’t have to sleep out in the middle of nowhere….this is Aggie Mom’s kind of camping out…..at the Hilton. You know, staying up late, acting like teenagers, doing what you want to do.
# 2 – But I didn’t go to A&M and I wouldn’t feel like I belong. I didn’t either and most of the Moms you’ll meet didn’t have the privilege to attend A&M….Heck, some of them hadn’t ever heard of A&M until their child applied and visited the campus. But let me tell you….You are as much an Aggie AS your student!….You’re one of the major factors your child has succeeded, you’ve been with them every step of the way…You’re now a part of the Aggie Family…..We make no exceptions….Your heart bleeds Maroon….Once an Aggie Mom, always an Aggie Mom! You’ll fit right in! And the NUMBER # 1 EXCUSE NOT TO COME TO CAMP
# 1 – I don’t like to have FUN. Then by all means, you need to stay home! Why mess it up for the rest of us! But, if you like to have FUN, learn a lot about A&M, bond with other Aggie Moms, visit with your Aggie, do a little shopping and just get away!!! CAMP IS PERFECT FOR YOU Don’t miss the Biggest Slumber Party Around….you know, “What Happens at Camp, STAYS AT CAMP!!!!” |
